The Varga Hennecke is a bar-restaurant on the sunny side of Oderbergerstrasse in Prenzlauer Berg in Berlin. We place great value on the quality of the products we use in all areas of our gastronomy, and we also make a large part of the food and drinks ourselves. The bar offers a wide range of drinks, from homemade lemonades, selected wines, one of the best beers in Germany, to regional spirits! Our kitchen cooks primarily german and italian!
On a Thursday around 8 p.m. with around 75% guest occupancy in the outdoor area, the waitress stubbornly ignored us for a full ¾ hour, despite friendly signs on our part, so that we left without being able to place an order and spent our money elsewhere could. This obviously shows that the operators have already earned at least one golden nose, which is probably in the showcase in the top floor apartment and now no longer consider it important to treat guests like them. So: If you want to contribute to the further golden nose and have an infinite amount of life available, you can take a seat, everyone else looking for hospitality should move on! Update: If you look at how the operator (s) reacts to any criticism, you have to ask yourself whether you want to be insulted if you express criticism. Perhaps the operators should run an elite club for master people. Then you are in the illustrious circle and do not have to deal with the mob. Better to make a huge bow around it.
The waitress (August 21, 2020, 8 p.m.) didn't know which beers are on offer. When asked in surprise, she became loud, began to curse, ran back into the office and was no longer seen. A remarkable failure that caused astonishment not only for us but also at the surrounding tables, which was confirmed to us. We didn't feel well anymore and left. Maybe it was just a kind of performance, as it is practiced in the entertainment gastronomy in these uncertain times, but we gave ourselves the resolution. Normally you would say: "Open your eyes when choosing a career", in which case you just hope she will get better soon and find a job.
Very competent and super personable service ...
Horrible service! The guy working there is rude, unfriendly. You will find better alternative for sure. Keep on walking! Answer to his answer: Lol look how defensive you are. 1. We didn't even ask for water. We had lemonades that by the way despite the fact you mixed our orders the lemonades were tasteless. 2. The way you're answering these reviews is not right way. You're not listening to your customers. You're defending yourself and justifying your inability to provide a decent service. Wrong approach! 3. Don't want to waste my time elaborating in a third point but just get back again and I will Have a nice day and smile so life smiles back at you!
Tasty food, good beverage selection, tentative service and very cosy atmosphere. I will be coming back 😊
Very good food, great shop, not too big. Nice service.
Super nice waitress! The food was really delicious and the price in the weekly menu is unbeatable! 3 courses for 25 € instead of 37 à la carte. Gladly again!
Delicious food, friendly service, top location. What more do you want
selected meat and very good wine and top service. Highly Recommended!!!
Very nice restaurant with freshly prepared food, fine drinks and friendly owner. We will definitely be back. Outstanding was the lukewarm potato salad. We particularly liked the compilation of the map with German and Italian focal points. Price and performance also fit. There are not many places, so you better not get to the peak times or reserved in advance.
Very cute, totally delicious! Moderate prices, friendly service. Happy again 😊
Great brunch solutions
Fast service with Berlin flair. Cozy restaurant
A completely random, but extremely great meeting with the restaurant and the owner of Varga Hennecke. The Jacob beer is really something special - and that applies all sorts!
Unfortunately at the welcome (after 10 minutes sitting there) very unfriendly service, long waiting times and half of the breakfast (bread) did not come at first, on the grounds that it was still in the oven. After 25 minutes we were asked if we needed the bread. There was cheese and butter already gone.
Absolute insolence. The staff was inconvenient and unfriendly from the beginning. The food was delicious, however, we were only half the breakfast, the bread was "still in the oven". After 25 minutes (the scrambled egg was of course already cold) we were called a "do you still need the bread?". The complaint ended in a 20 minute talk by the owner explaining why the service was so bad and rude. Even if he was sorry, unfortunately not recommended.
Went for brunch; it is a bit expensive for the portion size, but I was able to get more bread for free and everything tasted good. Cozy outside seating!
Good food, lots of options! I liked Pasta!
If you love asparagus go here in may
Great food, friendly service. The restaurant is personally decorated.
Delicious food, but it is really small and so crowded. I would recommend a reservation
Very nice place, small and comfortable. Very friendly team and great food!
What can I say? Great ambience, attentive service, delicious food. I will definitely come back
Ended up here randomly. But we where NOT disappointed! A lovely owner that understands hospitality and has a good taste, that you can see in the interior. Also, very very good food. We cleaned out our plates. We where told everything is made fresh, and we could taste that. Please go and visit.
Nice food, friendly service! We had a blast :)
For me the best Wiener Schnitzel in Prenzlauer Berg. Tip: If you are there, ask for a recommendation for beer, the owner is very knowledgeable and offers delicious beers.
Good breakfast, nice atmosphere.. Good breakfast in my favorite street. The Classic Breakfast is sufficient even for persons with a great appetite. Varga doesn't seem to be as hyped as some of the other places in the neighbourhood. Though relaxed and well visited. Only thing I would point out is the marmelade... Though homemade quality I would prefer a classic marmelade for a classic breakfast.. This one is made of elderberry and no doubt a treat for many people.. but not in my taste expecting one of the Classics. It was not bad though.... and a little close to orange marmelade. Nice and relaxed owner... Would definitely come back.
Very good wine, very good food, extremely friendly service! And a homemade basil or lemonade was also very good! Fine dining!
Owner is unfriendly and unprofessional. This person lost his cool because we moved a table, and instead asking in a friendly manner, he preferred to rant and scold. Big no no!
Pleasant on this cold and rainy day in Berlin. The breakfast for 2 was very generous. Friendly service, correct prices and deadlines
Nice classic breakfast.
Spent 45 minutes preparing a pasta dish I would have expected from the Ibis. Plus it was 13 euros.
we really enjoyed the friendly, competent attention here. A little mecca for the salad friend, we went back the next day and were not disappointed. The good wine recommendation is also remarkably positive, thanks
Some great classic Italian and German dishes, Chill relaxed atmosphere. Simple but well executed.
The guy waiting and acting as chef is very nice and the food was awesome! The ambient is old and simple, intimate. The antipasti itlaiani is very good, with good taste and fresh ingredients. Mozzarella buffala very good, with tomato and Persil, a simple yet not easy to find in Berlin as good as in this place. Risotto con frutti di mare very nice, but spicy which was a nice twist.
Hidden Jewel! We have been there a couple of times. From the first course to the dessert, a sensational dining experience.
I had break’feast’
Fresh meal! Delicious food Kind service Unique vibe I highly recommend :) (I had a gulash and burger with beers!)
Cosy place. Good for breakfast, apero, lunch and dinner! Also vegan option! Good service!
I've eaten here quite a few times. I know I can trust the place to have excellent (!!) food, very kind service (the guy who runs the place often does service and kitchen single handedly and he's a marvelous cook!!!!! ) . The decor is nice, the wood comes apparently from he old neighbourhood pool which was closed and renovated a few years back, and generally you feel there's heart in this place. It's not just a business- it's people who care about what they do and want their clients happy (except for tap water obviously.. their choice. It's a pity but there are worse things..)
We've eaten here a couple of times and every time the food and service was top. Someone complaining about no free tap water clearly hasn't spent much time in Germany.... 🙄 Love this restaurant and the people! Thanks for making our New Years Eve particularly memorable this year!
Slow and disrespectful service. Very disrespectful. Don't ask for tap water for instance, they won't serve you and tell you their business is to make money... We were a table of 7.
Very good place. Good price. Nice atmosphere and music. The manager is very Nice. 👍🏻
